Aluminum Floor Mats, Foot Grilles and Roll-up Floor Mats

Aluminum Foot Grilles and Roll-up Floor Mats are some of the most durable floor mats available.  These types of systems are all custom mats.  Architects will often specify Aluminum Foot Grilles and Roll-up Floor Mats because of their "hi-tech" look.  The aluminum portion of these door mats is offered in different colors through an anodizing process.  When aluminum floor mats are installed that possess a color other than the standard aluminum mill finish color, a "scratching wear pattern" will usually occur caused by normal foot traffic.  This "scratching" effect is much less noticeable when the aluminum floor mats are a standard mill finish.  An additional benefit to electing a mill finish is that the aluminum floor mat will be less expensive as well.

As mentioned previously, these  types of door mats are custom mats.  When recessed into the floors, these matting systems will often require a frame around the perimeter of the pit to protect the surrounding flooring.  This frame is either installed during the "pour" phase of the concrete or can be installed after the concrete is poured.  Utilizing an experienced floor mat contractor or an installer that is familiar with this type of floor mat system is imperative to achieve optimal results.

Aluminum Foot Grilles, if properly installed and cared for, are floor mats that will perform for many years.  All aluminum floor mats are fabricated from a high grade extruded aluminum.  The Foot Grille type of floor mats are usually set into a recessed area that is at least 1-1/2" in depth and can be much deeper with the appropriate framing to allow for drains if desired.

Aluminum Roll-up Floor Mats have more moving parts, are less "stout" in construction and are subject to damage if extremely heavy loads are rolled over the floor mat.  The design of Aluminum Roll-up floor mats utilizes a "hinge" system to connect aluminum rails that allow the floor mat to be rolled up for cleaning.  The hinges can be constructed from vinyl, rubber or aluminum.  When the floor mat hinges are constructed from aluminum, they tend to be much more durable but may emit a "metal to metal noise" when walked across.  In order to eliminate the noise issue, factories began to fabricate the hinges out of a vinyl or rubber.  While this breakthrough did eliminate the "metal to metal" noise, the overall lifespan of the matting system was shortened.  Especially the roll-up floor mats with PVC or vinyl hinges.  There has also been an influx of"look - alike" aluminum roll-up floor mats, but in reality they are predominantly PVC.  These "look - alike" floor mats have aluminum on the surface next to the carpet inserts, however, the hinges and the rails that hold the inserts in place are constructed from PVC on the underside.  This is a substandard design as the PVC will be subject to cracking.  And when this occurs, the mat can literally fall apart at the hinges and also during carpet insert repair of the floor mat.  The preferred roll-up floor mat design is aluminum rails with either an aluminum hinge or rubber hinge.

While the aluminum portion of the floor mats generally do not wear out, the inserts can wear out over time.  Many of the floor mat inserts can be replaced at a fraction of the expense of a new aluminum floor mat.  The Mad Matter has developed a carpet insert replacement system that fits in most existing foot grilles and aluminum roll-up floor mats.  If you have an aluminum floor mat already and need only to replace the matting inserts, we may be able to serve you.   Let us help make your floor mat look and perform like it should.

Anti Fatigue Mats

Anti fatigue mats are much more than just Rubber Mats.  By definition "anti fatigue mats" should possess features that help to provide anti fatigue relief from the effects of prolonged standing.  There has been much discussion about which features to seek when choosing anti fatigue mats to provide the utmost in comfort. A few points to consider when choosing the best anti fatigue mats are:
Overall Softness of the Anti Fatigue Mats -
Softer is not necessarily better for anti fatigue.  Anti fatigue mats that that are too soft will force leg and back muscles to work harder to
maintain balance and position - consider the tiring effects of walking in soft sand at the beach.
Rebound -
Do the anti fatigue mats rapidly return to their original shape after compression?  This rebounding reduces the amount of energy leg and back
muscles must exert to maintain proper posture and position.  Less exertion by muscles equates to a reduction in lactic acid build-up which
leads to fatigue.Very important consideration when choosing the best anti fatigue mats.
Design of the Anti Fatigue Mats -
Generally speaking most floor mats that are considered anti fatigue mats fall under three design categories:  Foam, Foam with a thicker "skin"
to protect the foam, and a molded design.  These anti fatigue mats are usually constructed from a PVC (Vinyl) or Rubber compound.
Generally speaking the anti fatigue mats made from a vinyl are less expensive, are less durable and do not offer the best anti fatigue
properties.  Anti fatigue mats that are molded are usually more expensive, are much more durable and offer the best features sought for anti
    fatigue.
How will the Anti Fatigue Mats be used?  -
We call this the application.  While secondary to anti-fatigue, many work environments can be abusive to anti fatigue mats.  If caustic
chemicals are present, petroleums, oils or lubricants (POL's), or perhaps a mat used in a specific area may be expected to stand up to the
effects of forklifts or wheeled traffic, or some other abusive environmental condition.
In a nutshell, Anti Fatigue Mats should provide a safe and comfortable workstation for people required to stand as they perform their
    duties.

Many of our anti fatigue mats are also resistant to grease, oils, static electricity, welding sparks or are designed for specific work environments.

Exercise Mats, Rubber Mats and Interlocking Mats

When considering which type of exercise mats will best suit your particular requirments, it is imperative to consider "How will the floor mat be used?"  A few applications associated with exercise mats are:
Free Weight Drop Zone Areas - i.e., Squat Racks, dumbell areas, benches, etc.
Recommendations:  Stick with "rubber mats" that are at least 1/2" in thickness and preferably 3/4".  Interlocking mats are OK,
but when the interlocking mats are put down, the result is many more seams than simple rolled rubber floor mats.  And the interlocking
mats used in these areas are usually more expensive as well.  Using larger interlocking mats (i.e., 4' x 4') will result in fewer seams,
fewer tiles and a quicker installation.  Interlocking Mats are great when portability is a concern or if there are concerns about personal
            installation skills.
Fitness Equipment areas for large areas under machines - i.e., ellipticals, treadmills, stairclimbers and other stand alone equipment, etc.
Recommendations:  Rubber mats with a color fleck in rolls.  These types of rubber floor mats should ideally should be glued down
to achieve optimal performance.  The color fleck will offer a different look than standard black rubber floor mats.  An additional benefit
is that powders and talc used in these areas are not as visible on the rubber floor mats with a color fleck.  Interlocking Tiles made of rubber
mats can also be used if portability is desired.  If free weights are not utilized, other flooring choices can be used like carpet made from
solution dyed polypropylene.  It is recommended that equipment mats be used under fitness equipment to help keep the dust from getting
into the intter workings of the fitness equipment.  Equipment mats can be made from a vinyl sponge, rubber and even have static dissipative
qualities which enhances the mat's ability to prevent dust from attaching to moving parts of the fitness equipment.
Aerobic Flooring :where comfort and stability are imperative
Recommendations:  Utilize Interlocking Mats that are Foam Tiles with a minimum of 5/8" in thickness.  Play Mats fall under this category.
This style of interlocking mats is available in a foam interlocking mats design or as a foam with carpeted surface made from polypropylene.
The carpeted version is available in rolls or as interlocking mats.  The foams are closed cell and offer comfort during stretching and reduce the
effects of impact during aerobic exercise.  Many colors are available
Locker Room Flooring - i.e., Changing areas, areas subject to water, shower stalls etc.
Recommendations:  PVC Interlocking Mats in tiles for Shower areas, pool areas and wet areas.  Utilize Sand Trap polypropylene
flooring in changing areas.  The Sand Trap floor mats are solution dyed and will not "absorb" moisture from sweat and shower areas.
As a result, odors associated with locker rooms can be minimized with proper cleaning.  Sand Trap floor mats also allow a wide
spectrum of colors and logos to enhance the appearance of any gym area.
    Home Gyms -
Recommendations:  Home Gyms often serve dual purposes.  With that in mind aesthics must be considered.  Any of the products
recommended above will be suitable for home gym use.  Sand Trap can also be utilized in a home gym area where machines
are predominant.  This will provide a flooring that is tough yet pleasing to the eye as well.  Another consideration for a home gym
application is that often the gyms are located in a basement below grade.  Issues of hydrostatic pressure (moisture seeping up through
the concrete) should be considered.  Basements that are damp or have a dank smell usually suffer from some degree of hydrostatic
pressure.  Solid rubber mats are non permeable and do not allow for the proper evaporation of moisture generated from this
condition.  For more info about how to address this issue, please contact us.
CAUTION:  Another factor to consider is "smell".  Many of the rubber floor mats or interlocking mats are made from a recycled
product.  The rubber floor mats and interlocking mats made from rubber can have an additive added that suppresses the strong odor
associated with recycled products.  This additive results in additional expense during the manufacturing process of the floor mats.  If
rubber floor mats or interlocking mats made from rubber are installed in an enclosed area, and the floor mats do not have the additive
added, the smell will remain strong and overpowering forever.

Factors to consider are durability of the exercise mats, ease of maintenance, installation and the overall functionality of the floor mats.

Floor Mats for Entrances and Logo Mats

The appropriate type and length of  Floor Mats can stop over 75% of the dirts and moisture from getting tracked throughout your building. It is recommended that 18 lineal feet of floor mats be used for optimal performance.
Choosing the Right Floor Mats Just Makes Good Financial Sense -  It cost about $500 in labor and materials to remove 1 lb of dirt once it gets tracked into your building.  Floor Mats Trap Dirt and keep your entrances safe.  The average slip and fall injury caused by a substandard matting system often results in over $15,000 of legal and medical claims.  Using the appropriate door mat is crucial for optimal safety.  Custom mats in custom sizes and configuations can add to your entrance area while simultaneously enhancing safety and maintenance efforts.  Improperly sized doormats are a waste of money, offer a false sense of security from slip and falls, and will not provide effective cleaning action.  Choosing the correct floormat means choosing the correct "size" and "type" of doormat.  Whether your requirements are for a small floormat or for hundreds of door mats, we can assist you in selecting which doormats will accomplish your specific objectives.

Logo Mats
LOGO MATS make a great first impression.  Logo Mats are always Custom Mats.  Logo mats not only look great, but logo mats can also help to maintain that "Class A" appearance that helps to keep occupancy and lease rates up and "Slip and Falls" down.  The designing of logo mats for a building or business can be a fun and creative undertaking.  Whether the logo mats simply have a building's name or address, or the design of the logo mats accentuate the architectural lines within a lobby, logo mats can really make a statement.
Choosing which logo mats are right can be confusing, but does not need to be.  It may be helpful to initially focus on the purpose of your floor mats initially.  Is it safety, dirt/soil removal or greeting your visitors?  Once the function of the logo mats has been chosen, the focus should be on overall size and colors of your logo mats.  A larger floormat will functionally perform better and also provides a surface area large enough to properly showcase a company's name or logo.  Choosing the colors of your floormat or logo mats should not only take into consideration the entrance area's colors, it should also take into consideration that the floormat will be on the floor subjected to the dirt, grime and traffic from people entering the building.  Lighter colors should be used as accent colors and placed in areas on the mat away from dirt sources our out of traffic patterns as best as possible.
Another key consideration when choosing the proper floormat or logo mat is from which material the mat will be manufactured.  The surface of floor mats used outside should be fabricated from Polypropylene, Rubber or Vinyl.  Surface material for interior mats can be fabricated from Polypropylene, Nylon, or a host of other materials.  Knowing how the floormat will be used - Inside our Outside - will also help to winnow down which processes should be considered when choosing your logo mats.  Logo mats made from polypropylene can utilize an "inlaid" or "flocking" logo mats process, but can not utilize a "tufting" or "dyeing" process.  Knowing the limitations of each logo process is integral to choosing which type or types of logo mats will achieve your objectives.

Garage Flooring

Got a Tired, Worn out Garage?  Check out our Garage mats and Garage Flooring.

You can quickly transform garage flooring that has cracks, stains and oil marks into a clean, crisp new look.   Whether using a roll out garage mat designed to stand up to the garage flooring environment, or an interlocking tile system able to withstand forklift traffic, The Mad Matter offers a full line of garage flooring ideas.
Got a vintage automobile or motorcycle that deserves showcasing?  Or just want to spruce things up, our Interlocking Garage Flooring and Garage Mats are easy to install, maintain and will look great for years.
When choosing the appropriate garage flooring product, your choices are wide.  However, a few issues should be addressed: Functionality, expense and durability.  Most of the products on the market will function well as garage flooring, however, some do better than others.  Interlocking tiles with perforations may allow drainage but make cleaning arduous.  Interlocking tiles that are over 1/4" in thickness usually possess a design that results in "voids" on the underside of the tiles which can weaken and make the tiles subject to cracking or breaking.  While more expensive, solid tiles with a "puzzle - like" interlocking system generally hold up much better in a garage flooring environment.
The next issue is expense.  Interlocking tiles, as opposed to garage mats, are generally more expensive.  There is also more labor involved in installing the tiles than in the installation of garage mats.  Garage mats can easily be rolled out to immediately achieve new garage flooring.  Finally, durability should be factored in when choosing your garage flooring.  By far, the interlocking tiles with "puzzle-like" designs offer the greatest in durability.  Some are even offered with long warranties (decades) and can withstand very abusive types of traffic (i.e., forklifts, pallet jacks, etc.).  The same can not be said for most of the interlocking garage flooring over 1/4" thickness (due to the voids on the underside).  And garage mats, due to their pliable qualities and their low mil thickness ( usually 90 mil or less), will not perform well in abusive environments but will easily stand up to normal homeowner use.
There may be other factors to consider when choosing which garage flooring product is best for you.  Please contact us with any of your concerns.

Play Mats

When choosing which floormat will be best for kids, factors like functionality and ease of maintenance should be taken into consideration.  Play mats are designed to be comfortable to crawl around on, have lots of vibrant colors available to stimulate the young minds and perhaps have shapes, letters of the alphabet, maps of the world, or games that stimulate play activities.  Play mats should also be interesting from a tactile perspective to encourage young minds to touch, take apart and re-assemble interlocking mats and tiles to create different patterns and designs. Stimulation is the primary function of most play mats.
Play Mats should ideally be made from a closed cell sponge construction.  This will make the play mats easier to clean (i.e., wipe up spills, etc.)  Play mats are generally very resistant to staining, have a spongy feel to them which is easy on the knees and hands.  Play mats can also serve as exercise mats for aerobics and stretching types of exercise.

Switchboard Mats, Non-Conductive, Static Dissipative Floor Mats and Conductive Mats

There is often confusion between the terms Non-Conductive Floor Mats, Conductive Mats, Static Dissipative Flooe Mats (ESD).

A Non-Conductive Floormat, usually called Switchboard Matting, is designed to insulate and protect People from the deadly shocks generated by high voltage equipment.  A Non-Conductive floormat will not allow the electricity to shock the worker thus protecting the person from serious injury.

Conductive Floor Mats and Static Dissipative Mats are designed to protect sensitive electronic equipment by drawing the static electricity that people generate before they touch flammable chemicals or equipment that could become damaged by static electricity.  A Conductive floormat will disperse the static electricity more quickly than a Static Dissipative Floormat.   A conductive floormat should be used around the most sensitive equipment.
