Under this section we are continuing our discussion of Aluminum Foot Grilles and Commercial Floor Mats, their functionality, some of the factors to consider and whether or not this floor matting system would be appropriate for as a commercial mat. As you are probably well aware, there are many entry mat manufacturers  and many manufactures of the aluminum foot grilles and roll-up floor mats.  You may not be aware of the fact that putting these products in use may require a little more care than other types of floor matting systems.  As a result, it may  be beneficial to utilize a commercial mat distributor like The Mad Matter, Inc.  For instance, prior to recommending an entry mat for you, we would need to ascertain some information so that we could provide you with a selection of commercial floor mats that will accomplish your objectives (i.e., recessed entrance mats, aluminum roll up floor mats, an outdoor mat, foot grille, etc.).  Our objective is not to just sell you an entry mat, but to provide you  with a selection of commercial floor mats that will perform.  You can then make an informed decision based upon price and aesthetics, but can rest assured that any of the choices provided will be an effective commercial mat.  




                                                                                          

Some of the questions we might ask could be:
                   Is this entry mat going to be a recessed entrance mat setting in a pit or will the floor matting set on top of the substrate flooring?

       Is this commercial mat going to be used as an interior entry mat or as 
an outdoor mat?

If the entry mat is used as a recessed floor mat, how deep is the pit?  

                 What type of traffic will these floor matting be subjected to (i.e., foot, wheeled carts, outdoor mat, pallet jacks, etc.)?

            Is this project "New Construction" or are these foot grilles replacing old entry mats?

                    If this project is "New Construction" , Will the floor matting require an aluminum frame?

                  If the recessed foor mats require frames, who will be installing the frames?  Has he installed foot grilles or aluminum hinge mats requiring frames before?

If the floor matting is replacing an old entry mat, are you doing so because the aluminum foot grille is damaged or only because the carpet inserts of the foot grille or aluminum hinge mats are worn?

    These are but a few questions we cover when discussing commercial floor mats.  And an aluminum foot grille or aluminum roll up floor mat is definitely a custom mat.  The answers to each question provides us with the necessary information to provide the best floor matting experience possible.  For instance take the last question about worn carpet inserts.  It would be expensive and wasteful to buy a new aluminum foot grille if the existing entry mat only needed it's carpet inserts replaced.   A new foot grille can cost up to $60.00 per square foot.  The foot grille entry mat system is basically quite sturdy and is a commercial mat that is not easily damaged.  It would be more prudent to replace the carpet inserts in most cases rather than to replace the entire entry mat system.
    For instance, a "new" foot grille commercial mat measuring 8' x 10' may cost between $2,500 and $4,800.  And this does not take into consideration many installation issues associated with these types of floor matting which can be daunting.  
    If the basic floor matting is in good shape, it would cost approximately $1,200 in materials to refurbish the same entry mat with our Diamond Strip Carpet floor matting inserts.  You can see an aluminum foot grille below that has been refurbished.
 





    Both the Aluminum roll-up floor mat and Aluminum Foot Grille entrance matting can be refurbished.  However, it would be necessary to ascertain specific information about your existing floor matting before we would recommend refurbishment.  One manufacturer of the aluminum roll-up floor mat started to produce their floor matting with a combination aluminum and PVC (vinyl).  The PVC is subject to deterioration (cracking) over time and once the PVC has cracked, these entry mats can basically fall apart when the old carpet inserts are removed.  When this is the case, total replacement of the floor matting is necessary.  
    If your need is for a new aluminum foot grille, it is imperative to utilize a professional to assist with the measurement, purchase and installation of your new foot grilles.  There are many issues to consider that will affect whether or not you receive the floor matting you deserve and expect.  Some of the signs of using the "wrong" supplier of entrance mats may be:

1. Placement of seams lie in the walk pattern of the floor matting.
2. The new Foot Grille entry mat "rocks" or "teeters" in the recess.
3. The floor matting has excessive gaps between the entry mat and pit wall or worse yet, the floor matting does not fit into the recess at all.
4. Acceptable time frames for installation of your foot grille or aluminum hinge mats are not met.
5. Door clearance issues where the installed entry mat prevents doors from swinging freely over the floor matting.
6. Orientation of the commercial floor mats is wrong - (Carpet inserts of an aluminum foot grille should be perpendicular to flow of traffic).
